Toys For a Six Month Old Baby | Stacking Toys | Toys to Encourage Crawling | Wooden Toddler Toys

A six-month-old baby is fascinated by the world and wants to play most of the time. It is at this age that your baby learns that he or she can make things happen! This is therefore an exciting time. Play is a key part of your baby’s development process and choosing the right toys for a 6-month-old baby, will help him or her create strong foundations for later learning.

At 6 months old, your baby may be sitting up with little or no support, she may be banging her rattle and making a variety of noises. Baby will be interested in everything and trying to reach for things. And she will briefly look for a toy if she drops it. At this age your baby will take part in activities that are centred around her.

Toys for a 6 month old baby

At six months old, the toys your baby will benefit most from include stacking toys, toys that encourage crawling and toys that increase baby’s interest with everyday life.

Stacking toys

These help with hand-eye coordination, which is really important at this stage of baby’s development. You can also add to baby’s development by introducing new words, as you play with the toys together – e.g. put the orange star on top of the green ring.

Toys to encourage crawling

At six months babies can be ready to start crawling. Toys that encourage movement, through pushing or pulling or reaching for the toy will encourage baby to become mobile and develop arm and leg coordination.

Try moving toys out of baby’s reach and encouraging her to chase after it. Always show baby what the point of the game is and give her lots of encouragement. Also try rolling a ball or soft cube between the two of you.

We sell a good selection of wooden toys on wheels that you can have hours of fun with!

Toys that encourage baby’s fascination with everyday life

At six months old babies are becoming much more aware of their surroundings. They are beginning to take notice of the things around them such as everyday objects, household sounds and activities. You can help your baby gain more understanding of this new and exciting world through naming things as you use them, showing baby different household sounds and playing with toys that resemble everyday objects
